{"id":250,"date":"2021-05-14T08:50:01","date_gmt":"2021-05-14T08:50:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hynesschool.com\/lakeview\/?page_id=250"},"modified":"2021-07-27T20:47:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T20:47:07","slug":"extracurricular","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.hynesschool.com\/uno\/extracurricular\/","title":{"rendered":"Extracurricular"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hynes is fortunate enough to have many volunteers and teachers willing to sponsor clubs and activities.<br \/>\nA variety of activities, clubs, and sports are offered at Hynes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Hynes PTO<\/strong> supports school-wide goals and initiatives through providing volunteers and coordinating fundraising.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A\u2019s and Aces<\/strong>\u2013 Tennis and tutoring program to promote success on and off the court.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Metro Middle School League<\/strong>\u2013 Students in grades 5-8 may try out for the volleyball, flag football, cross country, basketball, soccer, softball, and baseball teams.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Whitney Bank at School Program<\/strong>\u2013 Students are encouraged to save their money on a monthly basis by making deposits when the Whitney bankers come to school. This enhances student knowledge of financial literacy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Girls on the Run <\/strong>and <strong>Heart and Sole<\/strong>\u2013 GOTR hosts a 5K in the fall and spring to encourage girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8 to set goals and achieve them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Boy Scout <\/strong>and <strong>Girl Scout<\/strong> troops are organized at most grade levels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Junior Achievement<\/strong>\u2013 All JA programs for elementary students are used at Hynes. They include Finance Park, Financial Literacy Day, and BizTown.\u00a0 The JA curriculum inspires young people to succeed in a global economy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Orleans Academic Games League<\/strong>\u2013 Students in grades 4 and higher compete in Propaganda, Equations, Presidents, and On Sets.<\/li>\n<li>Hynes students participate in local academic competitions hosted by area high schools and colleges.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recycle Rangers<\/strong> are 3<sup>rd<\/sup> graders who encourage recycling of paper and plastic on campus.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Student Council<\/strong> schedules service projects throughout the school year. This year students will facilitate the following:\u00a0 Boo at the Zoo Candy Drive, Think Pink fundraiser for American Cancer Society, a food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank, Mardi Gras bead drive for St. Michael\u2019s, Pennies for Patients, and a blood drive.<\/li>\n<li>Hynes students display their talents in the school chorus, theater troupe, cheer squad, pep squad, city-wide spelling bee, and band.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hynes is fortunate enough to have many volunteers and teachers willing to sponsor clubs and activities.
